Course Summary: Why do states behave the way they do? What it means to be a powerful or a weak state in the international system? What are the most prominent theories of international relations? This introductory course on diplomacy and international offers an overview of most prominent theories in the field of IR. Special emphasis is given to realism, liberalism and the small state approach in the international system. Issues of hegemony, the UN system and neo-Marxist views on international politics are also discussed.
The final module compiles a list of relevant sources which participants can use to broaden their understanding of international diplomacy and international relations.
