Course Summary: The course will introduce the concept of investigative journalism and reflect on its history and its practice in different scenarios worldwide. A few exceptional examples of investigative reporting will be provided. In addition, a few notable non-profit organisations and media platforms working in the field of investigative journalism are reviewed. The second part of the course focuses on crisis reporting and looks at how some crises in the developing world, such as the ongoing civil war in South Sudan, are underreported in global mainstream media.
The final module offers a collection of useful online tools and funding opportunities for aspiring investigative journalists. An additional reading section features interviews with a few renowned investigative journalists.
